Matt Berlin

 1 NHL Game

April 22, 2022 Colorado Avalanche vs Edmonton Oilers. 3-6 loss.

Early into the first period during a game against the Edmonton Oilers, Colorado Avalanche backup goalie Pavel Francouz was hit by a puck on the sidelines and was forced to leave the game to seek medical treatment. Edmonton's house backup goalie, Matt Berlin, was summoned by the Avalanche. Berlin was a a more than capable netminder. He had played in the WHL and was playing with the University of Alberta during his EBUG duty. Typically in these situations, Berlin would have been asked to dress but hidden in a back room. In this case, perhaps because it was so early into the game, Colorado decided to not only dress Berlin, but they signed him to a one-day amateur tryout contract. After signing the contract, Berlin joined the team and was allowed to sit on the bench for the last two periods of the game.
