Kyle Konin

 4 NHL Games

December 2, 2021 St. Louis Blues vs Tampa Bay Lightning. 2-4 loss.
April 1, 2024 Tampa Bay Lightning vs Detroit Red Wings. 2-4 loss.
November 7, 2024 Philadelphia Flyers vs Tampa Bay Lightning. 2-1 win.

January, 2025 Tampa Bay Lighting vs Chicago Blackhawks. 1-4 loss.

Game #1
Kyle Konin spent the 2021/22 NHL season as Tampa Bay's local emergency backup goalie. His dream came true when the St. Louis Blues were in town to play the Lightning and lost goalie Jordan Binnington to COVID-19 protocols. Cap issues forced the Blues to call to local goalie Kyle Konin instead of recalling someone from the AHL. Konin dressed as backup to Ville Husso.
Not only did Konin lead the Blues onto the ice for the start of the game, he was left alone to take a rookie lap by himself, an NHL tradition. "“I was kind of against it for a while,” Konin said. “I was just like, I don’t know if it’s more of, like, a thing you have to earn or whatever. I just was kind of like, I don’t know if I should. But all the boys were like, ‘Oh, no, you’re going, you’re going.’ So at that point it was kind of like they decided that for me. It was a good time, and it’s pretty cool to kind of get the full NHL experience.” (1)

Game #2
Konin got his second stint as an NHL backup goalie April, 2024. This time he dressed with his hometown Tampa Bay Lightning. Jonas Johansson was injured and without enough time to fly in a backup from their AHL affiliate, the Lightning turned to EBUG Kyle Konin. Konin practised with the Lighting and dressed as backup to Andrei Vasilevskiy in a game against the Detroit Red Wings.

Game #3
In Tampa Bay to play the Lightning, the Philadelphia Flyers were suddenly a goalie short when they lost Alexei Kolosov to a lower-body injury during the morning pregame skate. They signed local EBUG Kyle Konin to an ATO (amateur tryout agreement) and he dressed as backup to Ivan Fedotov.

Game #4
Tampa Bay goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy came down with a sudden illness before a game against the Chicago Blackhawks. Konin, now maybe the luckiest EBUG ever, was again signed to another ATO and dressed as backup to Jonas Johansson.

  • Wore #31 with St. Louis Blues
  • Wore #30 with Tampa Bay Lightning
  • Wore #72 with Philadelphia Flyers
