April 17, 1979 New England Whalers vs Quebec Nordiques. 3-2 win.

April 29, 1979 New England Whalers vs Edmonton Oilers. 4-1 win.

   Towards the end of the 1978-79 WHA season Tom O'Toole dressed as New England's backup goalie for a handful of games. Whalers goalie Al Smith missed some time due to a hamstring injury so O'Toole dressed as John Garrett's backup. O'Toole had been signed by the Whalers after being invited to their 1978 training camp. 

   Late April, 1979 New England Whalers goalie Al Smith was sidelined with a groin pull during the WHA playoffs. O'Toole dressed as backup to John Garrett in a game against a young Wayne Gretzky and the Edmonton Oilers. O'Toole travelled with the Whalers during the series as a spare goalie but dressed as backup only once.
