Dave Roach

2 NHL Games

March 14, 1987 Edmonton Oilers vs Buffalo Sabres. 5-3 win.
March 15, 1987 Edmonton Oilers vs Hartford Whalers. 4-1 win.

Dave Roach had just finished his college hockey career with Michigan Tech when he got an unexpected call from the NHL team who owned his rights, the Edmonton Oilers. The Oilers were going through some goaltending issues and with Grand Fuhr experiencing a minor injury, needed a backup to dress behind Andy Moog. Roach signed an amateur tryout and joined the Oilers for a weekend, dressing for two NHL games. In the first period of Roach's second game with the Oilers, Andy Moog twisted his knee and almost had to leave the game. A newspaper article from the time reported that Roach "was white" when coach John Muckler looked his way, indicated he might have to go in net.
Roach witnessed Wayne Gretzky lead his team to victory twice. The Great One scored 2 goals in the March 14th win against Buffalo and followed that with a goal, his 60th of the season, and an assist in the win against Hartford.
