Stephen Michalek

3 NHL Games

March 10, 2016 Minnesota Wild vs Edmonton Oilers. 1-2 loss.
March 19, 2016 Minnesota Wild vs Carolina Hurricanes. 3-2 win.
March 20, 2016 Minnesota Wild vs Chicago Blackhawks. 3-2 win.

March, 2016 Stephen Michalek was recalled by the Minnesota Wild on emergency conditions. Their #1 goalie, Devan Dubnyk, had come down with a sudden illness. Michalek served as backup to Darcy Kuemper for one game. Just over a week later Michalek was back in the NHL. In his second stint with the Wild he dressed as backup to Dubnyk twice while Kuemper recovered from a minor upper body injury.

Steve Michalek was drafted in 2011 by the Minnesota Wild after he starred as a high school goalie. Michalek had represented USA at the Ivan Hlinka U18 Tournament in 2010 and finished the season as the 5th ranked North American goalie by Central Scouting. His first season post high school, at Harvard, was a success and saw Michalek being named to the ECAC All-Rookie Team. He lost his second year on the team for his minor involvement in the infamous 2012 Harvard cheating scandal. In his final season of NCAA hockey Michalek lead Harvard to the 2015 Ivy-League title. All done with his time at Harvard, Michalek was signed to a two-year entry-level deal by the Wild in July, 2015.

  • Wore #50 with Minnesota Wild
