Nathan Schoenfeld

1 NHL Game

February 15, 2016 Arizona Coyotes vs Montreal Canadiens. 6-2 win.

The Arizona Coyotes were left scrambling to find a goalie when Anders Lindback was suddenly injured before a game against the Montreal Canadiens. With #1 goalie Mike Smith already sidelined, the coyotes needed a backup to Louis Domingue and their AHL team was too far away for a goalie to make it to Arizona on time. Enter local net minder Nathan Schoenfeld. Schoenfeld played with the Coyotes alumni squad and practiced with the players occasionally over the summer so he was known to management. Shoenfeld's father is former NHLer and current New York Rangers assistant GM, Jim Schoenfeld. Shoenfeld joked about calling his father before the game and asking if the Rangers had any scouts at the game. If they did, he quipped, they needed to check out the new Coyotes backup goalie. When asked post-game to describe his first NHL experience Schoenfeld said, "I don't known if I have the words quite yet."(1)

With AHL call up Niklas Treutle too far away to make the next day's practise, Schoenfeld's time as a Coyotes netminder was not over after his emergency appearance as a backup. Schoenfeld practised with the Coyotes on February 16. The following day, however, he was back to his day job as a relationship banking officer in Scottsdale, Arizona.

  • Wore #40 with Arizona Coyotes

*No hockey stats available. Played club hockey with Arizona State University from 2002 to 2006.
