Eric Hartzell

1 NHL Game

April 22, 2013 Pittsburgh Penguins vs Ottawa Senators. 3-1 win.

In 2013, undrafted goaltender Eric Hartzell played spectacularly for Quinnipiac University. In his last season with the team he was named one of just 3 finalists for the 2013 Hobey Baker Award, given to the season's best NCAA player. He didn't win the award but got something even better, an NHL contract. April, 2013 the Pittsburgh Penguins signed Hartzell to a one year contract and later that summer resigned him to another contract that would keep him with Pittsburgh until 2015.

Late into the 2012/2013 NHL season the Penguins sent goalie Marc-Andre Fleury home to be with his wife as the couple was expecting their 1st child. He missed one game and Eric Hartzell filled in for him. Hartzell dressed as Tomas Vokoun's backup.

  • Wore #31 with Pittsburgh
