Dustin Smith

 1 NHL Game

December 16, 2021 Colorado Avalanche vs Nashville Predators. 2-5 loss.

Dustin "Bones" Smith has spent years attending Nashville Predators games as the team's emergency backup goalie. January 12, 2017 the Boston Bruins were in town to play the Predators when they lost goalie Tuuka Rask to an injury in the first period. Zane MacIntyre relieved Rask in the Bruins net but Dustin Smith was asked to get his gear on as a precaution in case anything happened to MacIntyre. MacIntyre finished the game and Smith, who was dressed, didn't leave the locker room.
A few years later Smith's big change finally arrived when the Colorado Avalanche were in town to play the Preds. The Avalanche were forced to sit Darcy Kuemper, who was recovering from a minor injury, and started Pavel Francouz. Smith was summoned to dress in Kuemper's place. This time he wasn't forced to hide in the locker room. Smith took part in the warm up and spent the game on Colorado's bench as their official backup goalie.
