Larry Thayer

1 NHL Game

February 23, 1980 Minnesota North Stars vs New York Rangers. 6-3 win.

February 23, 1980 the Minnesota North Stars were set to host the New York Rangers when, just prior to the game, they lost goalie Gary Edwards to a back injury. Needing an emergency backup, the North Stars called 27 year old local Larry Thayer. Thayer had starred at Edina High School and went on to play with the University of Minnesota but he hand't played competitively since 1975. Gilles Meloche made 36 saves on 39 shots for the North Stars and Thayer spent the night on the bench. Experienced goalie Louis Levasseur was recalled from Oklahoma City and was able to join the North Stars for their next game. Thayer was paid $325 for his night in the NHL. (1)
