December 18, 2018 Detroit Red Wings vs Philadelphia Flyers. 2-3 loss.

When the Detroit Red Wings lost goalie Jimmy Howard during warm ups, they turned to the home team for an emergency backup. Kowalkoski was at the game with his gear as Philadelphia's official emergency goalie and the Red Wings gave him the call he had dreamed of. They signed him to a one-game contract and had him sit on the bench for the entire game. A geologist, Kowalkoski had last played for Colgate University in 2008.
