February, 2019 Filip Gustavsson had a three game stint as Ottawa's backup goalie to Anders Nilsson. Gustavsson replaced Craig Anderson on the roster, who was recovering from a minor injury.

December, 2019 Gustavsson was recalled to the NHL for the second time. Under emergency circumstances, Gustavsson dressed as backup to Marcus Hogberg. Anders Nilsson missed the game recovering from a case of the flu and Gustavsson was returned to the AHL after just one game.

Gustavsson's second stint of the 2019/20 season and third overall recall to the NHL occurred when Hogberg suddenly left the team for personal reasons. Gustavsson backed up Craig Anderson for 3 games.
