Jeff Tyni

1 NHL Game

February 28, 2014 St. Louis Blues vs Anaheim Ducks. 0-1 loss.

Jeff Tyni played club hockey for California State University in Fullerton and graduated from the school with a bachelor degree. Although he never pursued a pro hockey career, Tyni refused to hang up his pads. October, 2005 Jeff Tyni was signed to an emergency contact by the ECHL's Fresno Falcons to be their backup netminder. A little over a year later he made another appearance as an emergency backup, this time for the SPHL's Fayetteville Fire Ants. About a week after playing for Fayetteville, he returned to the ECHL to be an emergency backup for the Stockton Thunder. Although he would have to wait a long time for his next emergency fill in, Tyni kept fresh with the Anaheim Ducks, serving as a practice goalie for team on multiple occasions. He was employed by the Anaheim Ducks as a 'game night staff equipment guy.' His day job, however, was a client service associate for FDP Wealth Management.

Tyni's big call came late February, 2014. When the St. Louis Blues acquired Ryan Miller in a blockbuster trade that sent goalie Jaroslav Halak the other way, the team was left without a backup goalie for that night's contest in Anaheim. Too far away to call upon anyone from their organization the Blues borrowed Tyni from the Ducks, signing him to an emergency contract. For Tyni it was "a dream come true." He had the best seat in the house, returned home with a St. Louis Blues team signed stick and memories to last a lifetime.
