John Muse

3 NHL Games

March 26, 2013 Carolina Hurricanes vs Winnipeg Jets. 1-4 loss.
March 28, 2013 Carolina Hurricanes vs Toronto Maple Leafs. 3-6 loss.
March 30, 2013 Carolina Hurricanes vs Winnipeg Jets. 3-1 win.

John Muse was an undrafted goalie who played exceptionally well over four years at Boston College.  In 2008 and 2010 the team won the NCAA National championship. In his final year with the club Muse was named 2011 NCAA Hockey East goaltender of the year and was named an NCAA All-American.

In the summer of 2013, after playing a year of pro hockey for Carolina's affiliates, the NHL team opted to sign Muse to a one-year, two-way contract. Carolina's VP of hockey operations, Ron Francis, said, "John is a proven winner, having captured championships on both the collegiate and professional levels. He excelled in his first professional season with the Checkers and Everblades, and adds to our organization’s goaltending depth.” (1)

With Cam Ward injured, the Hurricanes were left to depend on a goalie tandem of Dan Ellis and Justin Peters to get them through the majority of the 2012/2013 NHL season. Late March, Ellis needed time off to recover from a lower body injury. He missed three games while recovering. John Muse was given the call to replace him on Carolina's roster and dressed as Justin Peters' backup.
