Torrie Jung was drafted by the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2007 but was not offered a contract by the club. He reentered the draft in 2009 and went unselected. Jung was later invited to the Edmonton Oilers' 2009 rookie camp. He was not offered a contract by the club, however, the rookie camp put Jung on Edmonton's radar.

November 21, 2009 the Edmonton Oilers were in a pickle. On game day their number one goalie, Nikolai Khabibulin, suffered a back injury. The Oilers were left scrambling to find a replacement for him. With all their minor league goalies too far away to make game time the Oilers called Jung. "I was just sitting at home, kind of resting, just watching TV," said Jung. "Then my head coach, Steve Pleau, called me and told me the Oilers had a bit of a situation and wanted me to dress. At first, I thought he was joking. But it was a pretty sweet experience. I would have liked to have won the game, but none the less, the guys treated me really well." Jung, who had been playing for the WHL's Edmonton Oil Kings, signed a one day emergency contract to suit up for the Oilers. He dressed as Jeff Deslauriers' backup. "I watch these guys on TV all the time, so just sitting there, I was a little bit star- struck," Jung said, "obviously it's a unique situation, it doesn't happen very often and it was a unique situation to be closer to guys that I look up to." He returned to the Oil Kings the following day. "It's been my goal to play in the NHL for a while," Jung said. "Not signing to this point doesn't mean that I have given up. It's a unique experience and I'm sure my junior teammates are going to ask a lot of questions about it and I'll have to explain a lot of things." It was Jung's only appearance in the NHL. (1)

Jung played four seasons of pro hockey in the now defunct Central Hockey League. He retired following the 2013/14 season.
