Scott Meyer played college hockey for St. Cloud State. In his last season with the team he was named an All-American. The undrafted free agent was signed by the New York Rangers after his college career was over.

To give rookie goalie Johan Holmqvist some playing time the New York Rangers sent him down their their AHL affiliate team in Hartford. Holmqvist was to miss one game serving as Dan Blackhurn's backup so Scott Meyer was recalled to take his place. It was Meyer's only stint in the NHL.

After briefly playing in Russian Scott Meyer retired from pro hockey following the 2005/06 season. He has coached junior hockey in the USHL and NAHL.
