December 9, 2003 Canucks goalie Dan Cloutier injured his groin during the team's morning skate. With a game that night the Canucks were left to find an emergency replacement for Cloutier. Their usual AHL call ups were too far away to make the game that night. Chris Levesque's University coach just so happened to be at the practise when Cloutier was injured and gave his goalie's name to the Canucks staff. Levesque was signed to a one-day amateur contract to backup Johan Hedberg. Levesque was studying for an exam when the Canucks asked him to play and he thought he was the victim of a prank. In a matter of hours he went from being a third string goalie at the University of British Columbia to wearing an NHL jersey.

Levesque nearly saw time in net with the Canucks. Hedberg broke his wrist in a violent collision in the first period but elected to play through the pain. Levesque spent a couple more seasons at UBC after his time with the Canucks. In 2005 he tried out for the ECHL's Augusta Lynx but failed to crack the roster. He is currently a head chef in the Vancouver area.
