November, 2015 Arizona goalie Mike Smith was sidelined with a lower-body injury. The Coyotes recalled Marek Langhamer from the ECHL on an emergency basis to serve as backup to Anders Lindback. After one game the Coyotes recalled Louis Domingue from the AHL, a goalie higher up in their depth chart, to served as Lindback's backup while Smith recovered. Langhamer was returned to the ECHL.

Early March, 2016 Coyotes rookie goaltender Niklas Treutle was struggling at the NHL level. With Lindback and Smith injured, Treutle had been recalled to play with Louis Domingue. The Coyotes decided that Treutle needed more time in the minors, sending him back to the AHL. Marek Langhammer, who had risen up the depth chart to AHL starter since his last recall, was once again summoned to dress as a backup to Domingue. A month later injuries saw Langhamer back with Arizona for their final game of the season. In his third game with the Coyotes he dressed as backup to veteran Mike Smith.

A Czech goalie, Marek Langhamer came to North America after being drafted by the Phoenix Coyotes in 2012. May, 2014 the Coyotes signed Langhamer to a three-year, entry-level NHL contract.
