Ray Reeson

2 NHL Games

February 14, 1970 Toronto Maple Leafs vs Philadelphia Flyers. 4-3 win.
February 15, 1970 Toronto Maple Leafs vs Chicago Blackhawks. 4-6 loss.

A long string of injured Maple Leaf goalies paved the way for Ray Reeson's NHL debut. The Maple Leafs lost Johnny Bower and Marv Edwards to injuries early into the 1969/70 season. Bruce Gamble and Gerry McNamara were tending Toronto's net when McNamara suffered a severely bruised thumb during a Leaf practice. Toronto decided to recall Serge Aubry from the Tulsa Oilers. Unfortunately, Aubry had just suffered an injury himself. The Leafs, therefore, recalled Aubry's backup, Ray Reeson.

It is possible that Reeson stayed with the Leafs longer than two games. A Globe & Mail article from the time confirms Reeson was with Toronto for the weekend but further information is unknown. It is likely that he rejoined the Tulsa Oilers immediately after his short NHL stint.

Reeson was acquired by the Buffalo Sabres for the 1971/72 season. The Sabres assigned Reeson to their AHL affiliate, the Cincinnati Swords. Reeson was selected by the Houston Aeros in the 1972 WHA draft but never signed with the team.
