March, 2008 the Nashville Predators signed their 2007 draft pick Jeremy Smith to a three-year entry-level deal. In 2009, Smith made the jump to pro hockey. He toiled in the Predators system until he was recalled January, 2012. The Predators wanted to give top goaltending prospect Anders Lindback some playing time so they sent him to their AHL affiliate, the Milwaukee Admirals. Lindback started two games for Admirals before being recalled back to Nashville. While he was with Milwaukee the Predators recalled Jeremy Smith from the same team to dress as Pekka Rinne's backup at the NHL level. Nashville later resigned Smith to a one-year contract but never again needed his services in the big leagues.

In the summer of 2013 Jeremy Smith was signed to one-year contract by the Columbus Blue Jackets. He was recalled to the team in December when they were in the midst of a goaltending crisis. With Vezina winner Sergei Bobrovsky out long term and Curtis McElhinney out day-to-day, the Blue Jackets called in Jeremy Smith to dress as backup to minor leaguer Mike McKenna. Smith remained with Columbus for two games before McElhinney was ready to return.

July, 2014 Jeremy Smith signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Boston Bruins. Smith dressed as a backup to Niklas Svedberg late February, 2015 when Tuukka Rask sat out for a game with the flu. Les that a month later Smith was again recalled by the Bruins, this time when Rask sat out a game with 'general soreness.' Once again, Smith was backup to Svedberg.

Shortly before Boston's final game of the 2015/16 season Tuuka Rask game down with a sudden illness. Jeremy Smith was recalled and dressed as backup to Jonas Gustavsson.
