Ranked as one of the best European goalies available, Harri Sateri was selected by the San Jose Sharks with the 106th pick of the 2008 NHL draft. May, 2010 the Finnish prospect signed a three-year, entry-level contract with San Jose.

With Antti Niemi recovering from a knee injury and Antero Niittymaki recovering from hip surgery the Sharks were left with Thomas Greiss and Harri Sateri in goal to start the 2011/2012 NHL season.  Sateri dressed as Greiss' backup for the season opener but was sent to the AHL shortly after as Niemi rejoined the Sharks.

July, 2013 the Sharks resigned Sateri to a one-year deal. He spent another season in the AHL with the Worcester Sharks and left for the KHL when his contract with San Jose expired.
